Kern County, Meadows Field Airport announces today that it has achieved Global Biorisk Advisory Council® (GBAC) STAR™ accreditation – the gold standard for prepared facilities. Under the guidance of GBAC, a Division of ISSA, the worldwide cleaning industry association, Meadows Field Airport has been recognized for implementing stringent protocols for cleaning, disinfection, and infectious disease prevention at the Airport’s William M. Thomas Terminal Building. Meadows Field Airport joins Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport (SJC) as the first two scheduled passenger service airports in California to achieve this recognition.
GBAC STAR accreditation is part of the airport’s commitment to cleanliness and care, which builds on our existing rigorous cleanliness protocols and includes a GBAC STAR cleanliness training program. The program also helped the janitorial team fine-tune safety protocols and consider various aspects of the entire terminal experience inside and outside.
“I have been proud of our dedicated building services team and their commitment to service and professionalism during this challenging time. This accreditation is a recognition of their high standards,” said Mark Witsoe, Airports Director. “This program enhances operational guidance and provides additional resources around disinfection safety. This accreditation is an example of our efforts to provide a greater peace of mind for passengers and employees.”
GBAC STAR offered Meadows Field Airport expert-led training and assessed its readiness for bio-risk situations. GBAC STAR validates that Meadows Field Airport implements best practices to prepare for, respond to, and recover from contagion outbreaks and pandemics. To achieve GBAC STAR™ accreditation, Meadows Field Airport was required to demonstrate compliance with the program’s 20 core elements, which range from standard operating procedures and risk assessment strategies to personal protective equipment and emergency preparedness and response measures. Accreditation will be complemented with regular internal and third-party auditing. Learn more about GBAC STAR accreditation at www.gbac.issa.com.
